At Chic Leaf, we were determined to find an alternative to plastics, papers and pollution. With this spirit, we set out to study natural alternatives, such as the Areca Palm Tree. The sturdy form and structure of these leaves are a perfect option for disposable plates, bowls and cutlery.
The naturally fallen leaves of the Areca Palm Tree are collected across large farms, thoroughly washed and sun-dried for several days.
The sheaths are cleaned and dried completely. They are then hand pressed into the shape of a bowl or plate using heated moulds. No chemicals, dyes or glues are used in the process. They are non-toxic and odorless.
Finally, the pressed plates and bowls are sterilized and cleaned thoroughly before being packaged and shipped internationally.
Sustainability isn’t just a trend for us, it’s a way of life. Chic Leaf’s founder, Ash, has nearly 20 years of experience in sustainable entrepreneurship. In 2001, he launched one of the first organic e-grocery services in the U.S and in 2009 launched another first in the U.S. -- a service that turned recycled plastic into reusable green moving boxes and eliminated the need for cardboard.
After realizing the wastage that paper products create in households annually - nearly 300 million tons - Ash researched natural alternatives, discovered the benefits of the Areca Palm Tree and launched Chic Leaf.
Given his Indian roots, Ash was inspired by its abundance of natural resources and wanted to create a product that was sourced and made in the home of his ancestors. He takes pride in knowing that each sustainable innovation reduces our carbon footprint and elevates greater consciousness for the world around us.
